Leo taught us how to become ourselves. Aquarius asks how a collection of individuals becomes a community.
If you’ve spent any time reading about the lunar nodes, you’ve likely seen the same explanation repeated over and over again: move towards your North Node and leave your South Node behind.
That interpretation has never felt like the complete story to me.
Your South Node isn’t a mistake; it represents the strengths you’ve already developed, lessons you’ve already learned. The South Node only becomes a problem when the comfort of familiarity prevents you from continuing to grow.
Right now, with the North Node moving through Aquarius and the South Node through Leo, the objective shouldn’t be to abandon Leo traits, but to hold them while learning to also embody Aquarius.
The Lessons of Leo
Leo teaches us creativity, courage, confidence, self-expression, and the willingness to let ourselves be seen. It reminds us that every person has something unique to contribute and that shrinking ourselves is often fear, not humility.
Each of those lessons is important, but Leo can become so focused on the individual that we forget we’re part of something larger. It’s easy to become consumed by my healing, my journey, my purpose, my identity.
Each of those are important, but on their own they offer an incomplete view.
Aquarius Asks a Different Question
Once we have a basic understanding of ourselves, the next step is to decide how we as an individual fit into and contribute to the world outside of ourselves. This is the lesson of the North Node in Aquarius, and the task we’re now faced with.
How do we work together to use our individual strengths to build something greater than the sum of its parts? Community, collaboration, mutual support. The sharing of knowledge and resources, networks of care.

Saturn Retrograde Overlay
With Saturn going retrograde at the same time as this nodal shift, the message is emphasized.
Saturn is often described as the planet of discipline and responsibility, but it’s also deeply connected to the structures we build together. Institutions, communities, and social systems are all very much part of Saturn’s domain.
While the North Node in Aquarius is moving us towards turning our focus to community, Saturn retrograde invites us to carefully evaluate if our actions are aligned with the systems we want to create, and to make any necessary changes.
These Transits Expect Movement
One important lesson that this transit is bringing us, and one that I very much hope we receive, is that awareness is not participation.
Most people, I’d imagine, care about what’s happening in the world, about injustice, about what kind of world future generations stand to inherit. But in a system designed to make us feel isolated and powerless, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and small, incapable of creating meaningful change.
But Aquarius is here to remind us that hope has always been something we build together. If you’re worried about your community, become an active part of it. Volunteer, check on a neighbor, teach someone a skill you’ve mastered.
Saturn wants intentional action, and Aquarius reminds us that meaningful change is something we create together.
Instead of drowning in the feeling of not knowing all the answers, lean into it. Take comfort in the understanding that being a part of a community means you’re not responsible for solving every problem. Just show up, lend a hand, and we’ll figure it out together.

- What strengths have I already developed that my community could benefit from?
- What kind of future am I helping to build through my everyday choices
